COACHES
At Harlan County High School, we have three dedicated coaches. The head coach is Ryan Vitatoe and the assistant coaches are Jarrod Sherman and Katie Hartney.
Ryan Vitatoe
- Born in 1978
- 1996 graduate of Evarts High School
- 2000 graduate, Bachelor of Human Services from Lindsey Wilson College- Columbia, Ky
- 2002 graduate, Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling and Human Development from Lindsey Wilson College - Columbia, Ky
- Nationally Certified Counselor and Licensed Professional Clinical Counseler
- Competed 4 years on scholarship in track and cross country for Lindsey Wilson College- Columbia, Ky
- Five time NAIA National qualifier in track and field (indoor and outdoor)
- Four top-ten finished at NAIA National Championships
- Began coaching at Evarts High School in 2004 (head coach)
- Has been coach at HCHS since schools inception in 2008
- Two time KHSAA Girls Class AA Region 7 Coach Of The Year
- Four time KTCCCA Girls Area 9 Coach Of The Year
- Girls Program: 2 time Class 2A Region 7 Champions, 3 time Area 9 Champions, SEKC Champions
- Boys Program: 5 time Class 2A Region 7 Runner Up, 2 time SEKC Champions
- Five individual Regional Champions in Cross Country
- 13 total athletes received college scholarships
- Known as ''Coach V''
Jarrod Sherman
- Born and raised in Harlan County, still living in Lynch, KY
- Apartment complex manager in Cumberland and Whitesburg, KY
- Started running about 3 years ago and has lost 100 pounds since then
- Ran in several half marathons
- TERRIFIED of teenagers up until started coaching
- Coaches the long jump and the triple jump.
Katie Hartney
-Threw for the class 3a Region 5
